Array Networks announced that Needham Bank tripled employee usage of remote access after deploying DesktopDirect. The bank’s employees can now access all files and applications from any location, without any risk of data leakage. With DesktopDirect, Needham Bank benefits from increased employee productivity while ensuring security standards and banking regulations are met – all at a cost-effective price point.

With DesktopDirect, employees access their files and applications from other locations more often because there are no additional passwords to remember. Also, since DesktopDirect enables remote access for iPhone and iPad users while on the go, the bank has seen a rapidly accelerating adoption rate in total hours of usage, and a nearly instant tripling in active remote access users.

“As operators seek to avoid being relegated to the role of a dumb pipe with their businesses confined to providing transport, it is clear that many revenue generative opportunities are being missed. Among these, the opportunity among the small to medium size enterprise (SME) market is one that offers great potential. However, in common with other areas of the industry, carriers are being cut out of the value chain by web companies that provide applications and services to clients directly. Google is the classic provider of many services that SMEs use via the cloud on a pay-as-you-go or subscription per month model. Some of such providers’ propositions fit elegantly with the requirements of SMEs. By their nature with between 2 and 75 employees, they can’t invest in enterprise-grade hardware and software and don’t want to get locked in to rigid, long-term contracts that could either prove too costly or fail to scale up as their business grows.”

“In my experience, whilst operators’ own shops and specialist retailers were ready to offer bundles of minutes and messages and SME-focused propositions such as shared call packages between company users, they were unable to offer more specific, enterprise applications and therefore miss out on the opportunity to upsell. I believe that operators can use this channel successfully. By offering revenue generative, value-added services directly to SMEs at the traditional point of sale, backed by the enviable trusted relationship they already have with their SME customers, they can outflank the web services companies and tap into the greater revenues generated for themselves.”

VMware, Inc today announced new features of VMware Go™, a Web-based service that provides small and medium businesses (SMBs) with an easy on-ramp to virtualizing their applications by automating the installation and configuration of the industry-leading hypervisor, VMware ESXi. With VMware Go™, SMBs can not only easily virtualize servers and create new virtual machines, but customers that have created virtual machines on VMware® Server can now move to the more scalable VMware ESXi platform without losing the investment they’ve made in creating and fine tuning virtual machines. VMware Go™ was developed in partnership with Shavlik Technologies, an IT management software vendor and a member of VMware’s Technology Alliance Partner Program.

Another new feature of VMware Go™ is Collective Intelligence, which helps guide a customer’s virtualization experience by aggregating user data to show virtualization best practices. With Collective Intelligence, users can view what other users have done in each stage of the virtualization process so they can be more confident they are making the right virtualization decisions. Additionally, users can view reports and dashboards with such information as the average number of virtual machines users are creating per VMware ESXi host, the top five hardware types on which the community is running VMware ESXi, or the top five virtual appliances that have been downloaded from VMware Go.

Array Networks Inc., a global leader in secure application delivery, today announced the launch of the DesktopDirect iPad application, which enables full remote desktop access for enterprise users. Businesses can now provide employees with direct access to their work computers and all Windows applications via the iPad, without risking data leakage – effectively transforming the iPad into a comprehensive business tool. Designed specifically for the iPad, the application takes advantage of the iPad’s full screen size to provide a complete view of remote computer desktops, thereby greatly enhancing productivity for users accessing business applications that are not available for the iPad.

Array Networks designed the DesktopDirect iPad application with two key enterprise challenges in mind: full application availability and security. With just a few clicks, iPad users can work within the familiar environment of their office desktops, from any remote location. Because the application only transmits video, keyboard, and mouse information, Windows compatibility problems and security risks are eliminated completely. Applications and data stay on the office computer, extending existing security and compliance standards to the remote employee’s location.

Hosting companies face increasing pressures to differentiate their services. Whether you offer dedicated,  shared  or managed hosting, challenges persist such as high churn, increasing support costs, and decreasing ARPU (average revenue per unit). Data backup represents a proven opportunity for hosting companies to expand their service offerings to existing customers.

Hosting companies choose Arkeia Network Backup to build profitable backup businesses because of Arkeia’s speed, flexibility, and support for the technologies used in hosting data centers. Hosting companies use Linux to deliver hosted services because it is a robust, cost-effective, and flexible platform and Arkeia offers the markets strongest support for Linux.

Similarly, hosting companies are starting to adopt virtualization  because it improves the efficiencies of server deployment and management. What more, hosting companies value the consistent architecture, the support for command-line and graphical management, and ease by which Arkeia Network Backup can be customized. Learn more about the technical features that make Arkeia Network Backup a great fit for hosting companies.

Finally, unlike other backup vendors, Arkeia does not sell backup services to compete with hosting companies. Arkeia offers special pricing and extensive technical support to help hosting companies build a profitable backup business. Arkeia’s software application, hardware appliances, and virtual appliances can be combined to allow hosting companies to offer backup services in unique ways to create market differentiation, reduce churn and increase ARPU.
